The Brentwood Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the launch of the 2018 Brentwood Business Awards, sponsored by Pinney Talfourd Solicitors.

The awards will recognise the best of local companies, charities, sole traders, employees and apprentices at a black tie dinner on 9 November.

Entries for 8 categories listed below are open to organisations based in—or doing business in—the Borough of Brentwood.

BRENTWOOD BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

The Brentwood Business of the Year will be chosen by Pinney Talfourd Solicitors from all of the finalists in each category. The Brentwood Business of the Year winner will be selected because they have excelled in every part of the Awards criteria.

APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR

Sponsored by Ardleigh Green

This Award is open to an apprentice who has shown significant achievements and progress within a recognised learning scheme.

Category criteria

  • The apprentice must have been employed or an approved training scheme for at least 6 months by the closing date (30 June 2018).
  • The organisation must be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood.
  • You must be available for judges to visit during July or August.

Category questions To be completed by the Employer or Training Provider:

  1. Outline the contribution the apprentice has made to the organisation during their apprenticeship. Please give examples of participation in any specific projects or initiatives.
  2. Describe the positive behaviour and attitude demonstrated during their apprenticeship.
  3. Please provide any other relevant information to support this nomination, such as any obstacles or barriers overcome.

To be completed by the Apprentice:

  1. How long have you been in your apprenticeship programme?
  2. Why did you decide to join the apprenticeship programme and has it met your expectations?
  3. What have been your main achievements as a result of being employed as an apprentice?
  4. What role do you hope to move into after you complete your apprenticeship?

BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR

This Award will acknowledge a leader who has achieved significant success in their organisation during the past 12 months, showing strong leadership and strategic vision.

  • You must be the owner/manager/director of a successful business or not-for-profit organisation for a minimum of 3 years.
  • The organisation must be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood.
  • You must be able to demonstrate consistently high levels of business skills and acumen.
  • You must be able to evidence that they have brought financial and non-financial benefits to the organisation through their efforts.
  • You must be available for judges to visit in July or August.

Category questions

  1. Demonstrate how your leadership and management skills have driven the organisation forward.
  2. Outline the steps you’ve taken to exceed customer expectations.
  3. Give examples of how you have raised the profile of your organisation.
  4. Provide one or more endorsements from colleagues, partners, or clients.

EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR

This Award will celebrate organisations who value their employees by creating a positive, inclusive environment that attracts, retains and develops talent.

  • The organisation must have been trading for a minimum of 12 months before the closing date (30 June 2018).
  • For-profit and not-for-profit organisations may enter.
  • The organisation must be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood and employ more than 2 full-time equivalent employees.
  • The organisation must be able to demonstrate how it has created a stimulating and supportive workplace, with motivated, trained, and ambitious staff.
  • You must be available for judges to visit in July or August.

Category questions

  1. Describe your recruitment and retention policy.
  2. What is your organisation’s approach to learning and development and how does this link with your business objectives?
  3. Give examples of how investment in people and initiatives has created a collaborative and supportive culture.
  4. Outline the Corporate Social Responsibilities activities you have been involved with over the past 12 months and how have they benefited your staff.

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD

This Award will recognise businesses and not-for-profit organisations striving to exceed customer expectations on a daily basis.

  • Your for-profit business or not-for-profit organisation must have been trading for a minimum of 12 months before the closing date (30 June 2018).
  • You must either be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood.
  • You must be able to demonstrate the highest level of customer care by adopting a proactive and focused approach to service.
  • You must be available for judges to visit during July or August.

Category questions

  1. Describe how your customer’s needs are at the heart of your organisation.
  2. What are your goals for the ongoing development of excellent customer service?
  3. Explain your complaints process and how negative feedback is used to improve your product/service.
  4. Share examples of testimonials from satisfied customers.

GROWING BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

This Award is for businesses that can show a growth in turnover and profit and either employees, products or services, over the last 3 years.

  • The business must have been trading for a minimum of 3 years before the closing date (30 June).
  • The business must show a high growth in revenue and profit over the past 3 years.
  • The company must be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood and be a commercial, profit-making business.
  • The company must be able to demonstrate how profits have been re-invested to maintain and secure significant future growth.
  • You must be available for judges to visit in July or August.

Category questions

  1. What has been your growth over the last 3 years in revenue, profit and market share?
  2. Give examples of growth in your staffing, products and/or services.
  3. How will you sustain significant on-going growth?
  4. What obstacles have you overcome to develop your business?

This Award highlights the best of Brentwood’s charitable and social sector organisations that make a positive impact on the community.

This Award will recognise companies that have demonstrated sales and marketing excellence over the past year and have a clear vision for the future of their business.

  2. Give details of successful campaigns over the last 12 months, including facts, figures and any other relevant information.

  4. Provide examples of the impact of innovation within the sales and marketing team.

SMALL TO MEDIUM BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

This Award is designed for sole traders or businesses with fewer than 250 employees that are making an impact within their field.

  • The business must have been trading for a minimum of 12 months before closing date (30 June 2018).
  • The company must be based in the Borough of Brentwood or do business in the Borough of Brentwood and be a commercial profit-making business.
  • Sole traders may apply.
  • The business must have fewer than 250 employees.
  • You must be available for judges to visit in July or August.

Category questions

  1. Outline your business plan and vision for the next five years.
  2. Provide evidence of business growth over the last 12 months.
  3. Give examples of your leadership and management strategies to drive the business forward.
  4. Provide evidence of funding arrangements and investment plans for the business.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Entry to the Brentwood Business Awards is free.
  • Applicants must be based in —or do business in—the Borough of Brentwood.
  • By entering, you are giving your consent for your data to be held by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce and any relevant category sponsor(s).
  • Sponsors are not permitted to enter their own category.
  • Applicants may enter an unlimited number of categories.
  • Category sponsors will form the judging panel for their respective category.
  • Decisions made by the judging panel are final. There can be no appeal against decisions of the judges and these decisions must be accepted as final in respect of all matters.
  • Shortlisted applicants will receive a judge’s visit.
  • A short video of all finalists will be filmed, which will be part of the awards event.
  • Finalists will be photographed for press use.
  • No liability for entries lost, damaged or delayed will be accepted.
  • The organisers reserve the right to amend any details of Brentwood Business Awards.
  • Finalists will be given one free ticket to attend the Brentwood Business Awards dinner, which will be held at the Mount Avenue Banqueting Suite.  Additional tickets may be purchased for £40 per guest.
  • All entries must be received via the website by 30 June 2018.
